GROW won the First World of Difference Award supported by Black & Veatch in April 2004. This is a prestigious national award from CIWEM (The Chartered Institution of Environmental& Water Management.)
GROW was a finalist in the Environmental Water Efficiency Awards 2005. It also won a Bronze Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show 2005.
The first prototype of GROW was researched at a rig built in 2001 at the Centre for Urban Pollution at Middlesex University, London. Associates included Ameco Ltd and Erisco-Bauder Ltd.
In 2002 the DTI awarded GROW a grant under its Partners in Innovation (Pii) scheme to carry out further research using a live source of grey water.
As a result the new GROW2 rig was installed at the School of Water Science at Cranfield University and is connected to the student accommodation for the source of grey water.
GROW and GROW 2 are also sold in kit forms, available from Spring 2007.
